The legality of CBD in the US is clearly defined by the US Farm Bill that regards hemp CBD products that have less than 0.3% THC legal. The marijuana laws, however, are different in different states. When you travel between states, you might have to face some trouble, if you haven’t done enough research about the marijuana laws of the state that you are traveling to.

Traveling With CBD Domestically

When you are traveling within the US, you do not have to be worried about carrying CBD products that are derived from hemp, without their CBD content exceeding 0.3%. You are allowed to carry CBD products of that kind across state borders and yes, in flights too. However, things are not the same with marijuana because states have a different take on the production, sale, possession, and consumption of marijuana.

Marijuana-derived CBD and hemp-derived CBD are treated differently by the law, as the former will usually have higher THC content unlike the latter. As of now, airport officials do not have any mechanism to determine whether a CBD product was derived from hemp or marijuana.  If a tested substance has detectable amounts of THC, field testing will show positive for marijuana. The substance is then sent for additional testing to determine the percentage of THC in it in order to determine whether it is federally legal or not.

There exist many discrepancies between federal and state laws, because of which we recommend you to check the CBD possession laws of the states you are traveling between. You may also carry a printed lab report of the CBD product, in case you are asked to verify the product’s cannabinoid contents. If you are carrying CBD products that you use as a medication, carry the prescription with you.

Traveling With CBD Outside US

It is necessary that you conduct thorough research on the CBD laws of the country you are traveling to because there is less clarity about international CBD laws. If you are traveling to a country that has strict drug laws, it is better to leave your CBD at home as there is a greater chance for you to be convicted of possessing drugs.

Traveling with CBD offers several benefits to the users like alleviating the typical symptoms of jet lag, sleeplessness, and anxiety. However, traveling with CBD without caring to learn the legal restrictions is not the right thing to do.
